The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has reported a significant traffic incident causing extensive delays on I-85 Northbound near Exit 44 at White Horse Road in Greenville. The incident, which occurred Thursday evening, has led to the complete closure of all northbound lanes as of 5:25 p.m.
Preliminary information suggests that the delays stem from an alleged bomb threat involving the driver of a truck. Local authorities are currently investigating the situation, and motorists are being redirected to avoid the area.
Detour Instructions for Northbound Drivers
In response to the closure, SCDOT has issued the following detour instructions for those traveling northbound:
- Exit I-85 at mile marker 40 and turn left onto SC 153.
- Proceed along SC 153 (Brown Road) to SC 20 (Piedmont Highway).
- Turn left and continue on Piedmont Highway to Bracken Road before making another left onto Bracken Road.
- Travel to US 25 (Augusta Road) and turn left to head north to SC 291.
- Rejoin I-85 Northbound at mile marker 46.
Motorists are advised to follow these instructions carefully to navigate around the blocked lanes.
Traffic Disruptions Continue
Officials are actively working to resolve the situation, but it remains unclear when I-85 Northbound will reopen. Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
Drivers should anticipate delays and proceed with caution through detour routes.
